Treatment time varies for each patient, because all patients are different. A general estimate for Phase 1 treatment is 8-14 months and for comprehensive treatment (often called Phase 2) is typically 12-24 months. It truly depends on the severity of orthodontic factors as well as patient cooperation.

Two-phase orthodontic treatment is a proactive approach to ensuring your child's unique dental and skeletal needs are met. Many children benefit greatly with interventions that expand the upper jaw, extinguish tongue thrust and thumb habits, and maintain or increase space for permanent teeth. Some of these procedures are time-sensitive and should be completed before the child hits certain growth benchmarks. By addressing issues early and strategically, there’s a higher likelihood you can avoid more extensive and invasive treatment later. There’s also psychological benefits in helping children feel more confident about their smile during critical developmental years.

Scheduling regular appointments is the most efficient way to progress through modern orthodontic treatment. Our team will let you know how frequently to schedule visits, but typically we will see you every 4-12 weeks. If you’re in our observation program, we may see you every 3-12 months depending on what we’re monitoring. Regular check ups allow for strong communication, adjustments in treatment as necessary, and an opportunity for you to ask questions so we can address any concerns.
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointment time. During your first visit, we’ll take digital scans, photos, and x-rays so that Dr. Herrington can diagnose and explain your treatment options. She will then give you her personal recommendations based on her findings. This appointment typically takes 45 minutes to 1 hour.
We’ve made it easy to book a consultation online or give us a call/text! You don’t need a referral. We’ll find a convenient time that works for you to answer any initial questions. In the meantime, read our FAQ.
For a smooth first appointment, access and submit your new patient health history form ahead of time. If not completed online, we will email them to you 24-48 hours prior to your visit. As a one-time courtesy, we will verify your orthodontic insurance benefit.
